A feast of meetings
On February 24, 2021 by Keturah HaferkampWhen I was in college the first week of school happened technically one week before the first week of school.
It was called WOW (week of welcome). In that time freshman got acquainted with campus, with student life, dorms, meals etc. It was orientation time.
That is what is happening for students this week. For professors this means MEETINGS. And lots of them. Everyday I have one meeting at least but there could certainly be more. At every meeting there is food.
To me it has been a sweet irony to discover that my meditation through the Psalms of Ascent has me alighting on Pslam 131. I have a few favorites within the Psalms of Ascent and 131 is a definite favorite.
I first remember the impact of this Psalm from back when I was still in undergrad. One of the local pastors was diagnosed that week with cancer and so in response he decided to preach this Psalm. At the time I did not recognize yet what a deeply entrenched desire it was for humans to try to “do” things or to try to remain “active” as a means to opiate personal pain or fear.
I have calmed and quieted my soul like a weaned child rests against its mother
Here now this week is the busiest I have been since I arrived. Isn’t it fitting to have such a psalm for my mind. What a perfect gift.
