A week in the life
On November 18, 2019 by Keturah HaferkampNow that there is that happy hum drum of routine where children and certain personality types thrive, I’d like to recount how a typical week goes. Typical is such a funny word…
Mondays: each Monday I have PhD students for a 4 hour seminar from 8am-noon. I meet with these candidates interchangeably every other week which means I have 2 sections of doctoral candidates but I only see them once in a fortnight. Best to make that 4 hours count. The students are researchers in engineering or material sciences or chemists. I enjoy working with them.
Tuesdays: I teach two sections of an MA course called Integrated English. Those classes are back to back. The first group meets from 8-9:40 am. The second group meets from 10- 11:40am. Both groups are spirited and hard working.
Wednesdays: my schedule shifts a bit from week to week.
This is also true of Thursdays, particularly as I work on my own projects. I find the two mid-week days to be the ones where I can get my best work done.
Fridays: are full but enjoyable. In the morning I meet with an MA group from 8-9:40. Then have an extended break period from 9:40-2:10. Class begins again at 2:30 with another MA group which meets til 4:10. And then a final group meets from 4:30-6pm.
Saturdays: we usually spend time with new friends exploring Guangzhou or trying some new foods! #becausefood
Sundays: we spend at church and then lunch until late afternoon with church friends. By far Sundays are our favorite days.
