Sintra
On January 7, 2019 by brian.haferkampToday we visited Sintra, a mountain village about 30 minutes north of Lisbon. The village dates back to the Romans and has a long history. There is a Moorish castle atop the mountain overlooking Sintra and the Royal family built the summer palace there.
We visited the town then walked up past the national palace to the Quinta da Regaleira. It is a stunning personal home that has become an icon in the area and has been given the distinction of UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s known for its beautiful architecture and amazing gardens (including some awesome caves!). It’s Disneyland for real.
This is one of the coolest places I’ve ever seen. I think it made an impression on all of us. I have a wacky dream to live in a castle. This trip has done nothing but validate that dream 😊 These places are really amazing.
Just to create some balance, we came home and watched our weekly episode of Alaska the Last Frontier.
